ABOUT THE ARTIST

Peter Batchelor

Trained as an architect, Peter works in a variety of media: Pencil, pen and ink, watercolors, oils, acrylics, and airbrush. In early professional life he added medium format and 35mm photography to an already growing set of creative and artistic skills.

His work has been exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Show in London, the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Gregg Museum of Art and Design, and the Design Gallery, North Carolina State University. In addition, his drawings and illustrations have been widely published in professional journals and publications throughout the world.

Growing up in London he discovered the magic of cities. His unique perspective of urbanism was later reinforced by residence in Vancouver, Canada, Philadelphia, and travel throughout North America and Western Europe. His vision brings together the color of street life with the drama and theatre of public spaces.

For his lifelong dedication to scholarship and practice in Urban Design he was elected to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects in 1991 and later to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Certified Planners in 2000.

He currently lives and practices in Raleigh, North Carolina, and besides his work in the studio he is writing a book, Anatomy of the City.
